Time Slip (Red Velvet's love affair with sleep)

Time Slip - Red Velvet

Red Velvet's newest MV "Dumb Dumb" came out a few days ago. The song is catchy and I can't get the repetitive lyrics outta my head! That's not always a bad thing. haha Even though I like the song and their voices sound really pretty (Red Velvet is on point with their harmonizing), I wanted to check out the rest of the songs on their album, "The Red."

I enjoyed "Huff and Puff" since the lyrics reminded me of Alice and Wonderland when they were singing about running and a rabbit. I think my favorite song on the album was "Day 1," as it talks about the first day of a relationship. The song was a sweet representation of young love and looking towards the future of a relationship.

Though, I'm not talking about those two songs today. I want everyone to check out "Time Slip."

I really like the beat of the song since it reminds me of American music. The two metered (I think it's two metered, I could be wrong) "bump" sound reminded me of "Fancy" by Iggy Azalea. Anyway, when I first listened to the song, it gave me a feeling of wanting to slip away or escape from something. Maybe, Red Velvet was trying to slip away from time?

I went to check out the lyrics to see if the feel of the song was like I suspected and matched with the words. The literal meaning paints the picture of a person who wishes to sleep in and doesn't want to wake up on a Monday. She wants to go back to sleep so that she can continue her beautiful dream.

I think that the song is really about being disappointed with the way reality is treating a girl. Real life is repetitive, boring and can be weird like the weird Monday weather described in the song. She needs a temporary escape so she turns to dream land. Dreams are so much better than real life because men are perfect or a girl's crush has mutual feelings in the dream world. A person can go at his or her own pace in their dreams too. The lyrics of the song even say, "The world out of this bed is moving too fast." Time waits for no one in the real world.

Basically, the girl in "Time Slip" isn't happy with what's going down in her life and it's going too fast. She needs to slip out of time for a bit to adjust and wander another world/fantasy. She can temporarily do that when she daydreams or sleeps.

Overall, I like the song. The lyrics were good and have an interesting meaning. I might give it a few more listens here and there before it gets lost in my iTunes shuffle when I'm studying.
