Flashback Friday: Moonlight (EXO's crying song)

Moonlight - EXO

To be honest, I like the Mandarin version better (but that’s because I’m EXO M biased lol). It might also because I really like Chen’s and Luhan’s vocals together. This was my favorite sad EXO song until “Sing for You” came along. But “Sing for You” isn’t really a sad song haha.

I remember the first time I heard this song, the timbre (or feeling of the song if you will) was very melancholic. I imagined a guy trying his hardest to hold onto someone, who was leaving. He was trying so desperately grasp on someone who could not be his. Since he has finally accepted that he can’t have what isn’t his, he is saying his final goodbye. It was really sad, but I usually obsess over songs that are bittersweet.

I guess it was really fitting that this song came out when the EXO tragedy came.

This song came out around finals time and I ended up crying when I first read the lyrics. The story I imagined was so heart wrenching! I was probably very emotional since I was stressed with finals, so I was prone to crying. It was also around the time when Kris left. I am a Meigeni/Kris stan, so I was very anxious with all the updates about this guy. In a way, the song was a reminder of what I suspected the reason for Kris leaving the group. I feel like the EXO members hold this song very close to their heart too. They were losing a group mate and their careers were probably at stake.

The story illustrated by “Moonlight” is what seems to be a guy who fell in love with an angel. She is a being out of this world and brings awe and wonder to this man’s life. He could never think of reaching her level, but he thinks about her constantly as the angel becomes a part of his everyday life. Along the way, he fell in love and he knows that their relationship is something that can’t be. The guy wants to protect the angel from getting hurt since she seems to be troubled. It becomes painful when he tries to get closer, getting to know her. He knows that he has to stop so that both of them won’t have endure the pain anymore, so the guy instead choses to keep the angel in his memory.

I still enjoy listening to the song even though I get a mix of emotions. It makes me glad that I don’t understand Chinese fully because reading the lyrics brought tears to my eyes again. I would love to see a drama based off “Moonlight,” but it might require a tragic ending to follow with the bitter and melancholic mood of the song.

In conclusion, my overactive imagination makes me keep “Moonlight” in a very special place in my heart.

Flashback Friday: I Just Wanna (F(x) Amber's Love Story About To Happen)

I Just Wanna - Amber

I am a huge fan of Amber. Tbh, I want to be best friends with her. I was really proud of her when she released her own album and wrote all the songs on it.

My favorite song on the “Shake That Brass” album had to be “I Just Wanna.” I was waiting for that song for FOREVER. Ever since I found out that “Goodbye Summer” was actually the Korean version of “I Just Wanna” I desperately wanted to hear the English version.

This song is so sweet. It’s about two people falling in love and just wanna be together. Both parties have mutual feelings, but they’re pretty shy about it. That’s so cute! The two probably complement each other and know each other very well because this song is about finding the one. They have been searching for each other for a long time! It’s adorable that they knew that they were destined to be with each other since the moment that they met each other.

I enjoy the beat of the song. I always seem to sway from side to side when I listen to the song. It adds to the sweetest of the lyrics. I also like that the song along to is easy to sing to since it’s in English. I try to sing along with K-POP songs, but I only sing the English parts since that is my native language. haha

When I listen to the song, it makes me hope I can find my future lover soon. I want to listen to this song with my future husband as we share our earphones and listen to my iTunes.

Please check out the song, then let us know your interpretation or what you thought of the song.

Flashback Friday: It's Me (Are you a strong, independent woman?)

It’s Me - Kahi

I actually found “It’s Me” by Kahi on accident. I was looking for YouTube singers' music, mostly for Dumbfoundead. Then, I came across the song. I thought it was really cool that he was featured in a Korean song and that he was rapping for a country that is a part of his culture.

I fell in love with the song from the moment that I watched the music video. I think I’ve listened to the song over a million times to infinity and beyond.

The choreography is really AMAZING. I wish I was a dancer cuz if I were, this would be the choreo I dance every single day. I remember reading that it was supposed to sort of manly dance that is also feminine at the same time. This made me like it even more because I, myself, am not the most girly girl. It was something I could relate to. But whatever the meaning behind the choreography and the lyrics, it was really cool.

I absolutely adore this song. It felt so empowered when I was listening to the beat. The snaps make “It’s Me” sound so sophisticated too. I felt like a strong woman when I was listening to it especially when I was listening to the English parts. I’m so bad girl. I’m so cool girl. I’m so sexy sexy sexy girl.

At first, I thought “It’s Me” was about a girl just making her way and doing her own thing. When Dumbfounded raps, it sounded like girl in the song is saying, “Oh, you don’t like me? You want that other girl? Well, bye~ I don’t need you.”

But, I was totally wrong since I don’t understand a bit of Korean. My interpretation of the song after reading the translation is about a girl basically telling off a guy for making assumptions on the type of person she is. He probably can’t handle her. The girl is embracing who she is and wants (cuz she doesn’t need a man) a man who is on her level.

“It’s Me” has to be my number one favorite K-POP song. It has a mix of Korean culture with Korean-American culture. I am a huge fan of globalization and blending heritage with the modern day, so I’m happy Dumbfounded is featured in this song. I also like that the composer of the song was a woman (Rottyful Sky)! I am always ecstatic when there are women in any field. Kahi showcases a song that makes a woman feel strong and comfortable in her skin. I really appreciate that as well.

Flashback Friday KPOP Style! - Love is Magic

Love is Magic - B1A4

Welcome to a little series Rhea and I created for Kaja Kaja K-POP! It's Flashback Friday!! Every once in a while, we'll share our favorite songs in the KPOP world.

For my first Flashback Friday, I'm going to talk about B1A4's "Love is Magic."

I know it’s only been about a month since B1A4 came back (which took forever and a year!) and “Love is Magic” is a pretty new song, but I really like it!

I always seem to enjoy the songs that CNU writes and composes. I suppose it's because we both have similar tastes in music (we both like Usher haha). Maybe if I wrote songs, they’d be similar to CNU? lol

Anyway, Love is Magic is the type of song that gives you tingles inside. It’s the type of song that describes the first time you fall in love or when you have a little school girl crush (or guy crush in the case of B1A4). It’s like when you’re doing your own thing and smile back at the memory at what your crush did or said.

The lyrics are pretty cute. The guy is falling in love and really likes the girl. He often thinks of the girl, especially her smile, and is hesitant to fall in love with her. The part the really sticks out to me is the part when he goes to the convenience store and buys stuff she likes. Then, when he sees the girl he likes, he wants to reach out to her, but he doesn’t. He's a little shy and doesn't want to ruin what they.

I might only like it so much cuz that's how I'm like when I have a crush haha.

The title fits with the meaning and lyrics of the song. Love is magical because it makes a person think of someone other then him/herself. It makes a person feel different types of emotions. I think CNU effectively highlighted those types of feelings in his song.

Please check out the song and read the translation, then let us know your interpretation or what you thought of the song.
