Yaayyy!! Here's the first 2016 song review for the new year. New year, new songs, more KPOP, more feels.
The first song I listened to this year was: "You Call It Romance" by K.Will. Like other K.Will songs, I like this one a lot. Let's go through my thoughts on the sound, music video, and lyrics. This was also the sequence I followed in analyzing the song.
.....
Sound and Music
On my initial listen, I thought the song was a great way to start off the new year. It's cute and bubbly. I feel like I'm falling in love when I listen to this song. The music alludes to young love, the type where the character is in high school. Maybe the character, which the singer personifies, has a crush on a good friend? This song probably illustrates their friendship turning into something more.
I do have to note that K.Will's and Davichi's voices match very well. All three of their voices blend together and sort of melts in my ears. That sounds weird, doesn't it? Just listening to their voices alone gives me an image of their voices dancing together. If they were personified, they would be swaying side-by-side holding hands. Of course, the members of Davichi would be trading off K.Will.
Music Video
I actually really like this music video. The sequence of events caught me by surprise along the way. I didn't think she would go with the decision she made.
The music video opens up with a girl receiving candy from a guy. She dreams about what it would be like if she dated this cutie. When they're on a date, it's so sweet! She choses to wear comfortable shoes and decides not to wear heels. This shows that the girl is comfortable around him, and he likes her for who she is. I'm assuming she feels the same for him too.
When she goes home, she gets a bubbly feeling. It's childish and akin to first love as represented by the candy and stuffed animals. She is happy and has butterfly feelings of being in love for the first time.
But then, there's another guy in her heart. For this guy, she feels obligated to be sexy around him. He does give her a little bit of lovely-dovey feelings as evidenced by the candy in the air. However, she's a more mature person around him.
When she's watching TV, she's thinking about who to chose. She has an internal conflict because she has feelings for both of them. At the end, the guy who makes her feel grown-up wins. I was surprised that she didn't end up with the guy who makes her feel like herself. The music video ends with the first guy she thought about giving candy to other girls, and he's totally into the teacher.
I thought she was going to go for the first guy, who makes her feel comfortable!!
I do really like that candy symbolizes love and the feelings associated with it. I also like that when you first watch the mv, seems like the events are really happening to the girl. But if you watch it again, it's more of the thought process in her decision.
Lyrics
K.Will!! You always trick me! I thought this was a happy song! Why are the lyrics so sad?
The lyrics were not too different from what I initially felt when listening to the song.
Like the music video, the song depicts a love triangle. The song is about a guy who is grateful and feels blessed to have the girl he loves. He sounds very genuine in his feelings. However, the girl he loves fools around with another guy. Well, it's not necessarily fooling around. The girl hangs out with another guy, who is supposed to be a friend. The first guy can read between the lines though. He sees she does have feelings for the other guy.
The lyrics makes me want to sympathize with the main guy especially when he says "you're the one who made me feel love again" and that he's fine with just being by her side. He can't help but feel very stupid to love a girl who doesn't return his feelings. He says he'll wait, but those bittersweet feelings could translate into a broken heart.
Is this a K-drama?
.....
K.Will probably chose to title his song "You Call It Romance" because the guy and the girl have different definitions of romance. His definition is waiting for his feelings to be returned, while hers is a pursuit of love.
On the other hand, the music video tells us that love is something that helps you grow. Even though a relationship can make you feel comfortable and you may want to be a bit childish, a relationship can be more meaningful if the other half helps you to grow. Maturing does not necessarily mean dressing sexy or wearing heels. It means the person helps you and allows you to go about your daily life in self discovery.
Love is about moving on, even though it might hurt with bittersweet feelings attached. You can't be the same person throughout a relationship. It may seem like love becomes normal, and it loses that magical feelings. There will still be inklings of cute, innocent love though. K.Will's trying to ask us, "Isn't it better to find someone who makes you better and supports you?"
Tell us what you think of this song and your interpretation as well! We would love to hear your thoughts.
I know, I know. I wrote about “Unfair” in my last Kaja Kaja post, but I had to write about it again! I usually don’t compare the lyrics of the Chinese and Korean versions of EXO songs, but I did it for this song. Well, it’s cuz this song is still my jam. It’s still on repeat 20 million times a day.
Let’s compare the sound first. The Korean version wins in my book for the sound. It’s more upbeat and the words seem to flow better. This version is more playful, while the Chinese version is a bit toned down and is more like a thought process. I might just be use to hearing Chinese music with solemn and/or sad themes. I can’t seem to fit Chinese into other genres of music.
Now, let’s go to the lyrics (my favorite part). In my analysis, I said the lyrics painted a story of a guy interested in a woman with a boyfriend. It’s unfair that the girl can’t be his because a relationship is in the way. That’s so scandalous right? But the Chinese version paints a different story and it may explain why the feel of the song is different. But the Chinese version illustrates a different story and it may explain why the feel of the song is different. The EXO-M version depicts a man unsatisfied with his current situation. He’s in love with a girl but he can’t be with her because she’s a God-given woman who’s perfect. I, without a doubt, prefer the Chinese version.
I like the Chinese version so much better because I can’t handle the stress of knowing that my relationship is forbidden and I could be punished any second. I prefer the bittersweet feeling of forbidden love that requires me to prove myself. I kept thinking throughout the EXO-M version, “You are worthy, EXO! You’re also perfect! Just prove it to the girl!” But, not really. Cuz, I need to prepare my heart for my bias to be in a relationship.
The difference between the Chinese and Korean versions makes me wonder if the lyrics of all the other songs paint different pictures as well. Are they depicting completely different stories like both “Unfair”s? I know it would be challenging to find the right words for each language for both songs. Though, I wouldn't think they would convey different feelings. I guess that’s the difficulty that comes with translating songs.
Let us know which you version you prefer? Or do you like both versions?
It’s a new year! A new line up of comebacks and new groups. Here’s our wish list for the coming year.
Rhea’s Wish List
1. First and foremost, lots of rest and time to spend with friends and family!
2. BTOB Comeback! It hasn't been long since they came back with an album, but I am hoping they comeback this year with an upbeat song (like their "WOW" days)! Although I do love their slow songs, I want to see more choreography on stage haha.
3. Seventeen Showtime (or just more reality shows with Seventeen)! I think they would be super funny on realty shows and since they have subunits within the group they will have the opportunity to showcase their talents!
4. SMTown World Tour! Wouldn't it be great to experience a SMTown?! I mean, who does not love SM groups? hahah
5. JYP World Tour! I am also JYP biased and I really love the groups in JYP because they are sooooo talented!
Kristine’s Wish List
1.More Wong Fu KPOP Videos with Phil teaching
Cuz dancer and teacher Phil is the best. Lol jk. It’s combining two of my interests: YouTube and KPOP
2. Day6 US Tour
They are having a US fan meet, but that’s not enough! Day6 is my favorite group and Jae should visit his home country.
3. B1A4 comeback
I would like this very soon, preferably another song written by CNU.
4. EXO Realty Show
EXO Showtime wasn’t enough. I want to know more about them. They’re hilarious idols and it short of gives them a break from strenuous activities.
5. Rest for idols and fair company rules
They really do need it. Idols sacrifice so much for us, but we, fans, could do a little sacrifice too. They deserve to be treated fairly and as humans.
Happy New Year Everyone! We all hope you guys had a great new year and enjoyed the holidays with friends and family. In the upcoming year, we plan to bring you guys more posts! Especially on topics we haven't talked about, since it does seem a little repetitive haha and we wanted to do something a little different! Feel free to leave any suggestions on what we should do for this year because we are open to anything! We hope you enjoy our posts and that you aren't too bored. Don't worry, more will come, it just takes time to get everything done. Thank you for all your support and for taking the time to read our posts, we really appreciate it! It's the end of the year! Before 2016 comes, we wanted to share with you some of our favorites of 2015. These are not necessarily from groups that had a comeback/debut this month, but are songs that have been on repeat on our iTunes.
To be honest, I like the Mandarin version better (but that’s because I’m EXO M biased lol). It might also because I really like Chen’s and Luhan’s vocals together. This was my favorite sad EXO song until “Sing for You” came along. But “Sing for You” isn’t really a sad song haha.
I remember the first time I heard this song, the timbre (or feeling of the song if you will) was very melancholic. I imagined a guy trying his hardest to hold onto someone, who was leaving. He was trying so desperately grasp on someone who could not be his. Since he has finally accepted that he can’t have what isn’t his, he is saying his final goodbye. It was really sad, but I usually obsess over songs that are bittersweet.
I guess it was really fitting that this song came out when the EXO tragedy came.
This song came out around finals time and I ended up crying when I first read the lyrics. The story I imagined was so heart wrenching! I was probably very emotional since I was stressed with finals, so I was prone to crying. It was also around the time when Kris left. I am a Meigeni/Kris stan, so I was very anxious with all the updates about this guy. In a way, the song was a reminder of what I suspected the reason for Kris leaving the group. I feel like the EXO members hold this song very close to their heart too. They were losing a group mate and their careers were probably at stake.
The story illustrated by “Moonlight” is what seems to be a guy who fell in love with an angel. She is a being out of this world and brings awe and wonder to this man’s life. He could never think of reaching her level, but he thinks about her constantly as the angel becomes a part of his everyday life. Along the way, he fell in love and he knows that their relationship is something that can’t be. The guy wants to protect the angel from getting hurt since she seems to be troubled. It becomes painful when he tries to get closer, getting to know her. He knows that he has to stop so that both of them won’t have endure the pain anymore, so the guy instead choses to keep the angel in his memory.
I still enjoy listening to the song even though I get a mix of emotions. It makes me glad that I don’t understand Chinese fully because reading the lyrics brought tears to my eyes again. I would love to see a drama based off “Moonlight,” but it might require a tragic ending to follow with the bitter and melancholic mood of the song.
In conclusion, my overactive imagination makes me keep “Moonlight” in a very special place in my heart.
Please check out the song and read the translation, then let us know your interpretation or what you thought of the song.
EXO is slaying! Their music gets better and better with each album. I still think their last album was the best, but the “Sing For You” album is still pretty amazing. They tore apart my feelings in both albums.
For once the title track is my favorite upon its first release. SO MUCH EMOTION IN THE SONG THOUGH. I get that bittersweet feeling of loving someone and not being able to confess (mostly towards KPOP and YouTube stars lololololol)
I want to introduce everyone to “Unfair.” My initial thoughts were that this is a song complaining about how unfair it is for the girl not to reciprocate feelings. I feel like it’s a journey towards eventually convincing a girl to notice the guy. I was thinking of the movie, Playing it Cool with Chris Evens when I first listened to the song for some reason. Was it because I watched it about a week ago? Idk.
This song is so scandalous! (For my standards) I was in utter shock when I read the English translation.
“Unfair” paints a picture of a guy falling in love with a girl, who isn’t single. GASP! But the girl is “selfish” and “unfair” because she’s a flirt. She advances on him when her boyfriend, who also happens to be his friend, isn’t around. His friend would curse and cuss him out if he knew the guy was having a secret, weekly rendezvous with the girl at the coffee shop.
The guy knows it’s wrong, evidenced by the nervousness and several drinks of coffee. However, his feelings are strong. He desires her eyes, nose, and lips. They even talk on the phone too. OMG. What if she calls him while she’s over at her boyfriend’s place?!
Since the song often mentions slowing down, I was also thinking maybe the girl just broke up with the boyfriend? The guy in the song doesn’t want to break the bro code and wants to wait a while before asking her out.
Whatever their situation is, it sounds more like lust to me, EXO. Why don’t you fall in love with sweet girls, like Rhea and me?
Haha jk. Let’s be real. This guy probably only feels like this way because he wants a little danger in his life. He wants excitement and a secret love affair would bring it. He is also interested in her cuz the girl is giving him attention. I remember reading somewhere on the interwebs that person A only likes person B because B initially had a crush on A. So basically, most of the time a person only likes another because there are already feelings established. And, who wouldn’t like it if someone gives you attention and flirts with you?
The only thing I hate about this song is that the guy is putting all the blame on her. It’s her fault because she decided to cheat on her boyfriend. BUT, he’s in the wrong here too, you know! He’s the one who decided to give in and doesn’t want to stop their rendezvous. He’s also become addicted to the situation saying “the trembling feelings tell me nothing else is important” and then he immediately calls her. Yo, you need some help!
Even though this song is scandalous and the situation irritates me (I really can’t stand cheaters), my respect for SM composers and songwriters has shot up even higher. SM, YOU’RE DOING YOUR JOB WONDERFULLY (when it comes to the songwriters and composers). They are really communicating the message through the feel and beat of the song. Who would have thought that he song made me think of the “friend dates” turned something much more or situation with a guy being a home wrecker in Playing It Cool even though I didn’t understand a bit of Korean in the song?
These composers and songwriters really showed me and maybe even you that music is a universal language. It communicates and expresses emotions and thoughts without any barriers.
Please check out the song and read the translation, then let us know your interpretation or what you thought of the song.
THE HOLIDAYS ARE COMING!! GOT7 is preparing us for the best time of the year with “Confession Song” and two more songs on the Winter edition of “MAD.” “Confession Song” is super cute, describing the process of telling a crush your feelings. The song has bells jingling in the background and an occasional piano phrase paying homage to Christmas. It makes you want to confess to your crush this holiday season, doesn’t it?
But what about the other days of the year? What about everyday?
GOT7’s got you covered!
I listened to “Everyday” right after “Confession Song.” I thought it was a followup to “Confession Song” because of the sequence and the similar background music. It’s even the second track on the album right after the promotion song. I was thinking that “Confession Song” established the feelings between the two parties, making them clear, then the guy can love the girl everyday.
Upon my first listen, I would not have known it was a song meant to be on a winter edition album. The bells in the background sort of hint at a Christmas theme. Though, it made me think more of “Till There Was You” by the Beatles. I was reminiscent of the opening of the song, “There were bells on a hill, but I never heard them ringing… I never head them at all till there was you.” The bells also gave me a bubbly feelings, so this song had to be about falling in love.
Since the title was “Everyday,” the song had to express falling in love everyday and doing it all over again each time. Like I mentioned earlier, I got a bubbly feelings from the song. I recalled the feelings I get when my crush (more like my bias) does something cute or when my OTP finally gets together in a drama. I smile all day and and think back to the memory. I also thought of young love during my initial listen since I associate bubbliness with falling in love for the first time. On the other hand, the song also had some snaps or claps. This made me think that the song was praising the feeling of being in love and also the girl as his love.
I had to check if my interpretation of song with listening alone was right because I was very wrong about VIXX’s “Stop It Girl.”
From my interpretation of the English lyrics, the two were friends first. She is his best friend and the most important person in his life too. I would like to think that he was slowly falling in love. He was slow to realize the meaning she had in his life. He has now come to realize that he is so lucky to have and be around her. He doesn’t deserve a girl like her. (Isn’t that the cutest love story?)
I could tell that this girl is very kind towards him because she’s even there when he’s crippled or hurt. This girl is the reason for him to go on in life, and the thought of her gives this guy strength. Since he’s very lucky to have her, he will return the favor (for lack of a better phrase) and promise his loyalty to his love.
The lyrics doesn’t say if they are actually together, but I really think they are. This has to be a song about best friends turned lovers.
I really like this song. I might like it more than the “Confession Song” one. Though I might be biased because this is sort of an illustration of how I want my future husband to think of me.
Please give this song a listen and let us know what you think! Please also let us know what you think of the English translation too!
OMG GOT7 IS BACK WITH THE CUTEST SONG EVER JUST IN TIME FOR THE CHRISTMAS SEASON! To tell you the truth I was so excited for this repackaged album that I kept listening/watching their teasers over and over again and once the MV released, I was very excited and I knew that GOT7 does not disappoint! Everyone can probably guess what this song is about just by looking at the title. This song is about having the courage to finally confess to someone he/she really cares about. With the help of GOT7, they were able to help high school students confess to the people they had crushes on for awhile, but did not build enough courage to tell him/her. I really thought that this concept was very cute for GOT7 and they were very successful to break the awkwardness between the couples. I absolutely loved the whole concept, with the reindeer and bear heads and of course the whole Christmas feel (just because I am in LOVE with the Christmas season).
As usual, GOT7’s vocals and rappers are on point! BamBam surprises me all the time, he is either a vocal or a rapper, either way he does a very good job in all their songs. Omg, the chorus though … doesn’t it just sound like angels from heaven!? Actually the whole song sound like angels from heaven just because everything about this whole song is PERFECT! The lyrics are just so adorable (even though it might be a little cringe-y to some people), but its just so cute and it makes me so happy! hahaha Words cannot explain how much I love this song, its just to great and I am so proud of GOT7! This year is most definitely their year because they released 3 albums all with amazing songs. I really hope they have the chance to perform this song because I am curious on how they would dance to this song. If they don’t have any choreo, its okay they will still look good standing in front of mics and singing.
Overall, this song is just amazing! From the concept to the lyrics, this song is pure perfection, which I can’t stop stressing haha. They looked like they enjoyed planning this whole thing and I think they also took a part in writing the lyrics in their album, which includes 3 new songs! So if you haven’t already, go check out GOT7’s MV for “Confession Song” and listen to their other songs included in the album! Let us know what you think about the song and if you loved the concept as much as we did! hahaha Don’t forget to show your support for them by buying their album on iTunes or the physical album (they have 2 versions so just buy both)! Congratulations to GOT7 for another successful album release!
I am a huge fan of Amber. Tbh, I want to be best friends with her. I was really proud of her when she released her own album and wrote all the songs on it.
My favorite song on the “Shake That Brass” album had to be “I Just Wanna.” I was waiting for that song for FOREVER. Ever since I found out that “Goodbye Summer” was actually the Korean version of “I Just Wanna” I desperately wanted to hear the English version.
This song is so sweet. It’s about two people falling in love and just wanna be together. Both parties have mutual feelings, but they’re pretty shy about it. That’s so cute! The two probably complement each other and know each other very well because this song is about finding the one. They have been searching for each other for a long time! It’s adorable that they knew that they were destined to be with each other since the moment that they met each other.
I enjoy the beat of the song. I always seem to sway from side to side when I listen to the song. It adds to the sweetest of the lyrics. I also like that the song along to is easy to sing to since it’s in English. I try to sing along with K-POP songs, but I only sing the English parts since that is my native language. haha
When I listen to the song, it makes me hope I can find my future lover soon. I want to listen to this song with my future husband as we share our earphones and listen to my iTunes.
Please check out the song, then let us know your interpretation or what you thought of the song.
EXID joins the November comebacks and released their digital single, Hot Pink! As usual, EXID comes out with an interesting and different music video and song. Right when I listened to this song, it gave off a strong 90’s music feel. Especially during the parts where it says, “push push push work it out/ don’t stop hey work it out,” there is a similarity to the song “Push it” by Salt-n-Pepa. But its not entirely the same, for it has a different beat and different style. I also love the contrast between LE's rapping and the vocals from the other group members.
There are many people already criticizing this song saying that its another “version” of Up and Down, but I disagree! Hot Pink is something different from their other music styles, but they still have that sexy image. I am surprised by the amount of English there is in this song, even though it might not really make sense. The “U I like the way you pink it” is a little confusing, what do you mean by “pink it”!? haha. But for some reason LE can pull it off and make it sound catchy. I also thought “pink hot” was pink oil, but it kind of makes sense right?! I am still a little confused why the song is called Hot Pink and reading the english translations do not make that much sense. So I’m thinking its one of those songs that will only make sense in Korean and translating it into English doesn’t capture the true meanings. Maybe its about how they make guys get that “embarrassed” feeling you know the rosy cheeks or red ears? Maybe thats what they mean when they mention the color pink? I just know from watching the music video, they are really good at catching a guy’s attention.
I am very excited to see them perform on music shows because I am dying to see the rest of the choreography! The dance for the chorus is very cute even if its very simple. They also look like they are having fun like in the beginning scenes. I really love how the music video was filmed as well! But I don’t know why the gas station was a big part of it. I thought the part where they are all throwing the money was pretty cute, it was kind of something an American music video would do haha. I was reading articles prior to their comeback about this song and how LE made a big contribution to this song and I give her props for this song, she worked very hard and it paid off. Overall this song is one of my favorites from EXID and if you haven’t listened to them yet you should, you will not be disappointed.
Don't forget to check out their newest song and like and/or comment on the music video*. Let us know your opinions on the song by commenting below! Do you agree with other fans that its just another "Up and Down" or is it something totally different? The time has come for B.A.P to finally comeback! It’s been so long! I feel like I haven’t heard their voices in a very long time. I also seemed to have forgotten that Jongup was a member of B.A.P. haha They returned looking much more mature and manly. Zelo looks like he grew up, and Bang stole my heart once again. I might get the allusion they look more mature since all six of them have dark, raven hair. With their comeback title, “Young, Wild, & Free,” B.A.P presents its audience a very empowering anthem about breaking free from being trapped. Maybe it’s a type of expression of their victory over their lawsuit? I’m not sure. I haven’t read the English subtitles yet, but that what I get from my initial listen.
I usually just give a listen to the songs B.A.P promotes, but this time around, I gave the entire album a listen. “Young, Wild, & Free” is one of four songs released on their fourth mini album, MATRIX. The album actually has five tracks but I don’t really count the monologue as one. There was a mix of different styles in the album, which could please and lure a wide range of listeners. When I was looking for the album, I read a comment that said that this may be one of B.A.P’s best. I know that B.A.P has produced happy and danceable tracks before, but it was new to me. “Take You There,” upon first listen, sounded like a love song. Here, the singer or writer of the song wants to take the next step in a relationship. I assume that the person and the love interest are good friends and are in that stage between friendship and dating. The person is willing to give his all in the relationship so the love interest doesn’t have to be hesitant. If they are together and decide to take the step, everything will be magical. They could have one of the best relationships. When I read the English translation, I think my initial thoughts were right on track. However, it made me think, is this song really about two friends who secretly like each other? Could this be a proposal song? The person in the song promises to protect his love interest. They are perfect for each other and he is deeply in love with her. He won’t choose other girls; she just has to give him the okay to move forward. I appreciate that this song shows that love is a two way street. There must be an understanding between the two parties. They must come to an agreement when they decided to initiate the next step or phase in their relationship. My favorite part of the song is the trumpets blending with the electronic sounds in the background. The bass also entices me to dance which I really appreciate. Bang’s rap is on point in this song too. I wish he had more parts, but having more than Bang’s and Zelo’s raps could have messed up the flow of the song. Jongup’s voice is also very smooth int his song too. Himchan’s, Young Jae’s, and Daehyun’s voices fit the song really well. I enjoyed the harmonizing in the song very much. Please check out the song and read the translation, then let us know your interpretation or what you thought of the song. -Kristine
Just before the Star Wars release in December, EXO joins the craze and releases their collaboration song/film Lightsaber! For all you Star Wars fans and EXO fans, you are in for a treat with this song!
First in foremost, lets talk about the collaboration film. Kai, Sehun and Baekhyun were amazing actors! Who knew Baekhyun could get angry under all that funny and innocent image, but what was up with his bright red hair?! Thats okay, it is not toned down. I love how they were able to squeeze in a Kai dance scene as he was preparing himself for battle. I really wished that they had a least a scene where they were fighting with those lightsabers and I was a little disappointed not seeing all the members. I was also surprised that they didn’t put the whole song in the film. When I first saw the video I thought the song was only 2 minutes long, but thankfully it wasn't! But overall I am proud of these three and I’m pretty sure it got all their fans fangirling/fanboying all over them. I mean come on, who did not love all these scenes!? Baekhyun walking down the aisle with the lollipop in his mouth, Kai in his suit looking clean and slick waiting for the elevator and Sehun “driving” the motorcycle and talking his helmet off trying to look cool, they all looked so good!
On to the song itself! OMG I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THE SONG WHEN I HEARD IT IN THE TEASER. Chanyeol’s rap was just amazing! In my opinion it was the best out of all their songs ever released (please don’t hate me haha). I loved how it fit with the beat of the song, it was just so catchy. He did a great job and also Sehun's rap. This song really had that EDM feel, which is very appropriate for this century since it is the “go to music” genre nowadays. Even though I do not listen to that kind of music, this song is an big exception. I absolutely love Kyungsoo & Baekhyun’s vocals! Their voices were so angelic, I loved how it was mixed into the song. Especially Kyungsoo's lines before Chanyeol's rap, it was like the perfect place before the rap! I love the transition from something sweet and angelic to something fast and upbeat. All the members did a great job in the song and they all added something different. My favorite part of the whole song is of course the chorus! The chorus is very catchy, easy to follow and can easily get stuck in your head. The song is about protecting someone, being their lifesaver, which is perfect for Star Wars! Everything about this song is pure perfection. EXO most definitely does not disappoint when it comes to releasing new songs. Although this song was a little different from Kai's teaser back during their MAMA era, this version in my opinion is better. I really love the background music compared to the one in the teaser. I am glad and excited that they were able to have this collaboration. Who wants them to perform this live?! I really hope they do!
Wouldn’t it be great if those not in Korea heard this song before the Star Wars movie in the theater?! I know I would be jumping up and down in my seat haha. I will be very jealous if they did that in Korea, I would have to go to Korea just to experience it! Did you love the song as much as I did? Compared to Kai’s teaser, do you like that version of Lightsaber or do you love the new version? Leave your comments below and don’t forget to check it out if you haven’t yet! You can also support EXO by buying the song on iTunes.
There seems to be trend in the KPOP scene: sound like video game music. Both Shinee’s and F(x)’s latest albums sound like Japanese role playing games I played when I was younger. VIXX seemed to join in on the fun.
With the latest comeback song with “Chained Up,” VIXX has also graced the music world with their second album of the same name. Like I mentioned earlier, I thought the album reminded of a video game. The one I had in mind was Final Fantasy VII. For some reason, I imagine Cloud and the rest of the gang sojourning their worlds while multitasking (I was doing homework and listening to the album). I guess it’s because of the concept for the “Chained Up” video.
I have to say in addition to the video game-like songs, I am reminiscent of the late 90’s and early 2000’s.
The album tricked me though. The intro track, “Mistress,” gives off a horror movie feel or another when you’re walking through a dark forest just before you face off with the final boss. I was expecting dark and heavy songs filled with somber feelings and regret. There would probably be a few enticing and seductive songs like “Hot Enough.” But then, there were cute and poppin songs like “Heaven” and “부시시.” There were some songs that made me feel like I was falling in love too, like “지금 우린.”
Here are my thoughts for each song based on the timbre/feel of the song since I don’t understand Korean:
사슬 (Chained Up) *Title
Their title song sounds like a KPOP song to me. There might be some suggestive lyrics, but it could also be something else. It could be the guy is a slave to the girl’s love and he’s losing his freedom to her.
MAZE
I get this feeling that the guy in the song is running away. Maybe he’s running away from toxic relationship?
Stop It Girl
The feeling of the song goes along with the guy falling in love. Since he is a bad guy, he doesn’t want to hurt the girl. He isn’t the best option for her, but he wants to move forward in their relationship. These lyrics would probably be the basic plot line for a Korean drama I would invest so much time and effort in.
Hot Enough
This song gives me the vibes of an attractive guy who is bragging about how hot he is.
Spider
This is probably a song about a toxic relationship too.
부시시
I feel like this is about a relationship that lasted for a while. The time spent with his lover must have been like heaven and he’s falling in love everyday.
Heaven
This song is probably telling a girl that she is beautiful no matter what. The girl is an angel and she doesn’t have to change how she is or how she looks like.
지금 우린
This song reminds me of a love song from the late 90’s and early 2000’s, like a Brian McKnight or Boyz II Men song. It gives me the idea of slowly falling in love and embracing every feeling along the way.
기적 (Eternity)
The lovers are stuck with each other. For some reason, I’m imagining spies partnering up and trusting each other. From that trust, they’ll find love too.
Error
I haven’t looked up the lyrics of this song, but I could only imagine the music video of this song. haha I’m getting a mix of hurt and regret here though.
Can’t Say
The guy in the song can’t admit that he is in love and can’t form his love into words. I think the lyrics are probably the sweetest thing!
With my first listen through the album, my favorite song is “Stop It Girl.” I’m a sucker with songs, literature, and dramas about people who believe they are hopeless in love falling in love. They feel like they don’t deserve it, so they try their best to make their lover happy.
Please give VIXX’s new album a listen and let us know what you think!
